High Performance Landscapes

SABRE

In 2001, the 600,000 sf SABRE World Headquarters was a US pilot project testing LEED 1.0 as advanced by the United States Green Building Commission. Two office buildings of a six building master plan are situated to minimize heat gain, preserve an existing hill and suppress the structural effects of highly expansive clay soils. Between the central plant and the buildings, a shaded armature conveys both employees and public utilities, providing convenience and eliminating the problem of buried utilities.  Kevin Sloan developed the master plan, the landscape architecture for phase one and conceptualized the architecture for the armature.
